The new Premier League season is just around the corner, and we can almost start previewing the opening day.
Indeed, the first weekend of the season is just over a week away, and Arsenal will be kicking off away at Old Trafford in what should be a huge curtain raiser.
Manchester United are coming off the back of a terrible season, but after making a handful of signings this summer, the Red Devils are in slightly better shape heading into this season.
That said, Arsenal are still firm favourites to win that opening day clash against United.
Viktor Gyokeres has signed for Arsenal, and he could make all the difference in that game.
However, as you can imagine, United fans see this situation rather differently, and speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has reacted to one United supporter’s opening day prediction.

Jamie Carragher laughs at Man Utd vs Arsenal prediction
The Overlap hosted a fan debate where supporters from each team could pit arguments and engage in debates with both Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes.
Inevitably, the Manchester United representative was bold in support of his team, and he predicted that Ruben Amorim’s side would ‘smash’ Arsenal at the start of the season.
Of course, this is an outlandish claim, and Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but laugh after hearing this prediction made.
Carragher, of course, has his own anti-United bias, and it’s clear that he doesn’t fancy their chances in the first game of the season.
Manchester United’s recent record vs Arsenal
Carragher laughed at the idea of United smashing Arsenal, and he was right to scoff at this suggestion.
Indeed, while Manchester United have caused Arsenal big problems in the past, those days are way behind both clubs at this point.
In the last 10 Premier League meetings between these two sides, things have been rather one-sided.
| Manchester United vs Arsenal last 10 Premier League games | |
| Manchester United wins | 2 |
| Draws | 2 |
| Arsenal wins | 6 |
United haven’t beat Arsenal in the Premier League for three years at this point, and they haven’t recorded a truly comprehensive win over Arsenal since the infamous 8-2 in 2012.
United may well offer Arsenal a challenge on the opening day, but to say that the Red Devils will ‘smash’ the Gunners is rather far-fetched it must be said.
