Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has now given his verdict on whether or not Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal are currently the form team in the Premier League, having won their least seven top flight matches on the spin.
In that run, the Gunners have scored a colossal 31 goals, and have conceded just three times. Mikel Arteta’s side now boast the best goal difference in the league, and have scored more goals than any other side.
The Arsenal defence is currently in a league of its own. At both ends of the pitch, the north London club are firing on all cylinders now. It took a while for Arsenal’s attacking unit to really click and gel this season, but Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, and Declan Rice have all now reached double figures in terms of goal contributions in the Premier League this season.
If Arsenal can maintain their current form until the end of the season – which is a big if, as they still have 11 games to play – then they will stand an excellent chance of claiming the title. However, few would have the north London club down as favourites for the crown. Liverpool and Manchester City both have their advantages over Arsenal, not least the experience of having gotten over the line and secured a title triumph before.

Jamie Carragher has say on Arsenal title chances
That being said, Jamie Carragher still feels that Arsenal could well overcome his former club and the reigning champions to get their hands on the Premier League trophy this season. Speaking on Sky Sports in the wake of the Gunners’ 6-0 demolition of Sheffield United, the pundit said, “at the start of the season, I doubted if Arsenal could win the league because the lack of goals. Yes, they’ve started scoring goals now, but if you have a problem scoring goals, another solution to that is to be better defensively. That’s where they are.”
“Right now, when I watch Arsenal, I think they are probably the best team defensively, not just in this country but maybe in Europe right now…they’ve got a great chance of winning the title.”
At the end of March, Arsenal must travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City. This fixture will have huge ramifications for the title race this season. At the Emirates Stadium earlier on in the campaign, Arteta’s side were able to overcome Manchester City. Beating them on their own patch, though, is an entirely different proposition. That being said, given their record-breaking recent away form, Arsenal should be heading into that encounter full of confidence.
Before then, though, Arteta will be ensuring that full focus is on Arsenal’s upcoming clash against Brentford. The Spanish coach has set Arsenal’s points target for the season, which means there is precious little room for error left available to them.
