Jamie Carragher is the latest figure to speak very highly of Arsenal starlet Max Dowman.

The 15-year-old has been the talk of the Premier League after making his Arsenal debut against Leeds United.

Dowman wrote his name into Arsenal’s history on his debut, as Mikel Arteta trusted the 2009-born talent with 27 minutes of senior football.

It was a message to the world of what’s to come from Hale End, with Dowman recognised as a talent that is impossible to ignore.

Jamie Carragher says Max Dowman has something special

Wayne Rooney thinks it’s ‘crazy’ to see Dowman playing in the Premier League, singing the praises of the Arsenal starlet after his display against Leeds.

As seen last season, Arsenal are harvesting some of the best talent at Hale End, but it’s fair to say that the teenager is somewhat of a phenomenon.

Playing at senior level at the age of 15 is unnatural, but Dowman makes it look easy, hence why he’s attracting so much attention.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Jamie Carragher compared Dowman’s imminent breakthrough to the paths that some of the world’s best have taken to reach the top.

“You think of some of the greatest players we’ve ever seen. They always get that debut really early if they’re special,” Carragher said.

“Most made their debut at 18, but he did it at 17 because he was special. I can’t believe someone that young is playing Premier League football.”

The pundit then went on to say that while Dowman’s ability is admirable, Arsenal need to take care of the youngster, shifting focus on the role that Arteta must play in his rise.

“Listen. That lad will need nurturing. Mikel Arteta has experience of that if you think of the players who’ve come through at Arsenal over the last couple of years. He’s at the right place.”

Having handed Ethan Nwaneri his Premier League debut at 15, Arteta is well-rehearsed in how to protect and develop young players without denying them a pathway to the top, but somehow, Dowman’s case is so much different.

Impossible for Arsenal to contain Dowman

Nwaneri was introduced on his debut to get a feel for the Premier League, but the teenager’s next appearance in the league came 17 months later.

For Dowman, it’s impossible to envisage that the 15-year-old will take a step back from the first team now, having impressed the way he did against Leeds.

While Arsenal want to hush talk of Dowman’s ability, Arteta will realise that the youngster actually makes the Gunners’ attack better, which is quite staggering.

There are high hopes for the teen already, with a pathway for the youngster to follow as he matures.
