Arsenal are on the market for a new striker this summer.
Mikel Arteta pleaded for a forward in the January transfer window, but the decision makers at the club decided against it.
That has cost Arsenal the Premier League title this season, and everyone at the club knows now that the same mistake cannot be repeated in the summer.
Like the rest of us, Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal will sign a new striker, but he has made an interesting prediction now.
Jamie Carragher says Arsenal’s new striker will get benched
Many people in the game think a striker is the missing piece at Arsenal.
The Gunners have top-class players in almost every other position on the pitch – they’ve just lacked a prolific goalscorer for a few years now.
That is likely to change this summer, and Andrea Berta is working hard behind the scenes to bring in a new number nine.
Carragher believes that this new striker – whoever he may be – will not be the answer to Arsenal’s problems next season.
The Liverpool legend has gone as far as saying that Arteta will bench this player and deploy Kai Havertz as a striker again to make things work.
Carragher said on Sky Sports: “We all know Arsenal are going to sign a striker, don’t we? ‘This striker is their answer to all their problems.’
“I don’t think that striker will be the answer to all their problems.
“And I think, whoever that striker is, eventually in the season, will end up being on the bench and Havertz will play instead of him. Havertz is very important to how Mikel Arteta wants to play.”
Arsenal need a striker who can do one thing that Kai Havertz can’t
Havertz has proven a lot of people wrong since joining Arsenal.
The German came under immense criticism when he first joined the club, but after his first six months, he has done a brilliant job in the famous red and white.
Havertz is definitely key to the way Arteta wants his side to play, but the former Chelsea man cannot do one thing – guarantee 25 or 30 goals a season.
The striker Arsenal bring in has to be able to do that this summer. We think Viktor Gyokeres is the man for the Gunners.
