Jamie Carragher reckons one Arsenal player has actually been better than Harry Kane recently

The international break is finally coming to an end, and Arsenal will soon be back in action.

Of course, a number of Arsenal players were in action over the past week, and some have certainly impressed on international duty.

Declan Rice has been brilliant for England as of late, while Mikel Merino has starred for Spain lately, scoring a hat trick for his country over the break.

However, perhaps the most notable performances over this past week have come from Noni Madueke for England.

Madueke has been praised for his England performances as of late, and speaking on Stick to Football, Jamie Carragher has made quite the claim about Madueke.

Indeed, according to Carragher, Madueke has been England’s best player in the Thomas Tuchel era so far.

Noni Madueke has been England’s best player

Carragher made quite the claim about Madueke.

England have a number of star players such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, but according to Carragher, Madueke has been the best of the bunch this year.

“I actually think Madueke under Thomas Tuchel has been England’s best player. It hasn’t been that great under Tuchel, so we haven’t got sort of too carried away with the games. And last night was really good and Madueke played well,” Carragher said.

“But in the games where we’ve been probably questioning Tuchel or how good is this or what teams he’s picking, I think Madueke’s been probably the best player. He’s always played on that right side, cutting in on the left.”

Past England Player of the Year winners

Carragher says Madueke has been England’s best player under Tuchel, and that means he could well be in line for the England Player of the Year award.

Tuchel officially took charge of England at the start of 2025, and while performances haven’t been amazing since then, Madueke has stood out.

If Madueke wins this award, he will join a very special roll of honour.

Of course, there are a few internationals to go before the end of the year, but, if Madueke keeps this level of form up, he could be in line for this award.
