Jamie Carragher says one Arsenal player is just like Roy Keane

Arsenal fans know all about how great a player Roy Keane was back in the day.

The Manchester United legend had many incredible battles with Patrick Vieira in the middle of the park, and their rivalry remains iconic even to this day.

There aren’t many such heated contests between two players anymore, but parallels can be drawn between Keane and current stars based on their footballing ability.

Jamie Carragher has done just that while speaking about Declan Rice.

Is Jamie Carragher right? Does Declan Rice deserve to win the Player of the Year award?

If yes, why? If no, which player do you think is more likely to take home the prize? Let us know in the comments!

Jamie Carragher explains why Arsenal star Declan Rice reminds him of Roy Keane

Rice has been utterly magnificent since he joined Arsenal from West Ham.

The fact that nobody has spoken about his £105 million price tag is proof that he has barely put a foot wrong in the famous red and white.

Rice has gone up a level since the start of this season, and his recent performances against Tottenham and Bayern Munich have reinforced our opinion that he is the best midfielder in the world right now.

Keane was associated with that tag at times when he was in his prime at Manchester United. Now, Carragher has likened the Irishman to Rice.

He said on The Overlap: “When you talk about Declan Rice, I’ve always said this, I feel like I’m watching Roy Keane. That type of player who can almost do everything.

“We sort of have these midfield players now, don’t we? Say okay, he’s the deeper one, he’s the creative one, or you know, you mentioned (Martin) Zubimendi. His job is sort of almost like what Busquets was, you know, sit deep, get on the ball, get the team playing. So you like your midfielder like that. Somebody else likes a certain type of midfield player.

“But I think with Declan Rice, that’s the best way I could describe him, where he feels like a Roy Keane to me, where he does all of those things. He just looks powerful. I never feel anyone can run past Declan Rice, even when someone tries to dribble past him. He’s a bit like that when I used to watch Roy Keane.”

What Declan Rice needs to do to become a legend like Roy Keane

Keane is often criticised for some of his ridiculous comments as a pundit these days, but nobody can say anything bad about the player he was.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Ireland international was unbelievable in the middle of the park, and his leadership is one of the big reasons why Manchester United were so great in that period.

Rice is already a great leader, even though he isn’t officially the captain, and everyone in the Arsenal squad respects him.

All he needs now is to win trophies for Arsenal. If he goes on to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season, he will become a Gunners legend.

Add a World Cup to that next summer, and he will be regarded as one of the greatest of all time.
