Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has had a mixed start to life at Arsenal.

Gyokeres arrived at Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon with the weight of expectation on his shoulders that he could be the man to fire the Gunners to the Premier League title.

The Swede struggled on his debut at Old Trafford before silencing critics with a brace against Leeds United.

However, more criticism followed his display against Liverpool with Alan Pardew expressing concerns over Gyokeres. Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has no such worries over Mikel Arteta’s star striker.

Jermaine Jenas believes Viktor Gyokeres will be a success at Arsenal because of his movement

Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Wildcards’ podcast, Jenas has revealed that he has noticed the intelligent movement of Gyokeres during his Gunners career so far.

Arsenal fans were furious with Gabriel Martinelli for not playing a through ball to the striker during the first half of the Liverpool defeat when it looked as though Gyokeres had out-foxed Ibrahim Konate with a dart in behind.

Jenas stated: “That’s what I mean. I think for me, when I watch strikers, right? I’m always a bit like, are you in the right position at the right time?

“More than kind of, not so much in terms of missing chances, like if you’re missing chances, that’s a problem.

“But the minute with Gyokeres, there was a big chance at the end where Gomez made that great block. But the run that Gyokeres had made, when I saw, I thought, you know what? He’s going to score goals.”

Louis Saha thinks Gyokeres will take time to settle and has even compared him to former Gunners striker Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal took time to adapt to Giroud’s strengths in the air and the same seems to be occurring with finding Gyokeres early in behind defences.

Viktor Gyokeres can build confidence alongside Alexander Isak

All eyes will be on Sweden’s opening 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier away at Slovenia as Gyokeres is set to partner Alexander Isak up front.

The duo have an excellent record for their country and Arteta will be keen for his striker to build his confidence in front of goal for the national team.

Gyokeres averages better than a goal every two games for his country and is looking to blast Sweden to their first major tournament since the European Championships in 2021.

The 27-year-old will be working with Isak on this occasion but will then become fierce rivals upon the resumption of the Premier League.
