Jorginho has now revealed that he has taken up something of a mentoring role for Declan Rice at Arsenal.
Jorginho is one of the elder statesmen in the Arsenal squad and is doing what he can to help Declan Rice develop his game.
Of course, Rice is already an elite level player, who Arsenal fans already feel is living up to his club-record £105 million price tag. However, Jorginho is a veteran of the game who still has plenty of guidance to provide.
The pair showed recently that they can make an excellent partnership on the pitch as they dominated the middle of the park in the Gunners’ statement 3-1 win over Liverpool. It is now also clear that they work well together on the training ground, too.
Speaking to JD Football, the former Chelsea man was asked if he ever gives advice to Rice, to allow the England star to benefit from his wealth of experience. The 32-year-old said, “yes. We speak a lot, and I just try to help when I see something I can add to him. He’s a great, great player, and he has a huge future in front of him, and he has a great mentality as well. So, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, and keeps being who he is…he’s going to reach the top.”

Declan Rice must take chance to learn from Jorginho
There is plenty for Rice to learn from Jorginho. The 50-cap Italy international cannot rely upon an excess of pace or strength to come to his aid on the pitch. Instead, he leans on his technical skill and ability to read the game to thrive at the highest level. He is also a natural leader, and Mikel Arteta has even previously named Jorginho as one of the most intelligent players he has ever worked with.
Considering Arteta has tipped Rice as a future Arsenal captain, there are certainly plenty of elements of the veteran’s game and mentality that he ought to be looking to learn from. This is especially true now, as Rice may only have a very limited amount of time left to work with Jorginho.
Jorginho’s future at the Emirates Stadium is far from certain. Whilst there is a clamour for Arsenal to extend his stay in north London, as yet no decisive action has been taken to retain his services into next season. As things stand, Jorginho is set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
