Gabriel Martinelli is reportedly expected to be fit for Arsenal to face Manchester City after picking up a foot injury.

The Brazilian international missed the north London side’s 2-1 win against Brentford on Saturday after suffering a cut to the foot in Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing against Sheffield United earlier in the week.

With Martinelli also ruled out tonight’s massive UEFA Champions League clash against FC Porto, fears had emerged amongst Arsenal fans that the 22-year-old’s injury could be worse than first imagined.

However, according to the Athletic’s James McNicholas, Martinelli is expected to be ready in time to face City at the end of this month, with the Brazilian not being called up for international duty.

Arsenal are at an exciting period in the season when every player could soon be fully available for Mikel Arteta to call upon, with Thomas Partey returning to the squad with Jurrien Timber close to a comeback.

And losing Martinelli now would have been a major blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes, with the winger one of the most important players in the entire squad under Arteta.

Yet after this latest update, fears from fans can now be pushed aside over if Martinelli will miss the upcoming clash against City, which could be Arsenal’s biggest game of the season to date.

Arsenal head to the Etihad Stadium this month in a completely state to what the Gunners were like this time last year in the exact same fixture in Manchester.

The north London side were lacking key players and the game plan was to concede as few goals as possible, with Arsenal still leaking in four in a 4-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side.

This time, though, things are a lot different, with Arsenal in great Premier League form and now having a more-or-less dully fit team to take on the reigning champions, with Martinelli’s injury the one real concern.
