Arsenal are back in European action this week as they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

For the second time in as many years, Arsenal are in the Champions League semi-final, and Diego Simeone’s side stand between the Gunners and a place in the final.

Atletico Madrid got past Barcelona in the last round, and it’s fair to say they will offer a stern test here.

However, heading into this game, some of the Spanish side’s star players have been injury doubts.

That said, two important updates have emerged ahead of this game.

Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman train ahead of Arsenal clash

Arsenal’s preparations for Wednesday’s clash with Atletico Madrid have been given an added complication, with both Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman spotted in training after being major injury doubts.

Alvarez had missed Atletico Madrid’s previous two games, while Lookman was not in the matchday squad at the weekend.

However, it does look like both players have recovered and could be fit to start here.

Alvarez has been one of Atletico’s most dangerous attackers since joining the club from Manchester City, so much so that Arsenal have been linked with Alvarez too.

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman has been a revelation since signing for Atletico, and he may be back in the team here.

Ademola Lookman and Julian Alvarez’s records vs Arsenal

Of course, Alvarez and Lookman are no strangers to facing off against Arsenal.

Both players have been in the Premier League before – Alvarez with Man City, while Lookman has played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester.

Both players’ stats against Arsenal make for interesting reading.

Lookman has never scored or assisted against Arsenal – a duck he will be looking to break on Wednesday, while he has only won once against the Gunners too.

Meanwhile, Alvarez has also never scored or assisted against Arsenal, but, crucially, he’s also lost more than he’s won against Arsenal – despite playing for Man City.

Lookman and Alvarez could both have a serious say on the outcome of this game, that’s for sure.
