Jurrien Timber has singled out one Arsenal teammate that is most deserving of the Premier League title.
Speaking to the media, via HaytersTV, the Dutch defender was asked about the title win and was specifically asked about the captain, Martin Odegaard.
“I think I would describe him as an amazing guy, an amazing player,” Timber said. “He carried this team through a lot and I think he’s one of the first ones to deserve this trophy.
“And we’re going to all be smiling when we see him lift the trophy on Sunday.”
🏆 Which Arsenal player is most deserving of this Premier League trophy?
Timber’s praise for Odegaard comes after even Premier League rival Erling Haaland said his fellow Norwegian fully deserves the title.
The Arsenal skipper is confirmed fit and available for Sunday’s final day trip to Selhurst Park, where he will lift the Premier League trophy as Arsenal captain.
Whether he starts is another question — Arteta may rotate with the Champions League final against PSG on 30 May firmly in mind.
Timber himself is pushing to be fit for Budapest, with an added incentive to prove his fitness ahead of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign.
The impact Martin Odegaard has had on Arsenal’s title-winning era
In 233 appearances since joining permanently, Odegaard has contributed 42 goals and 46 assists, but the raw numbers only tell part of the story.
Unfortunately, his season has been laden with injuries and persistent fitness issues. He has started just 16 Premier League games — his fewest since joining permanently — which has prevented him from building any real momentum.
Yet even in a stop-start campaign, he still leads Arsenal in through balls, assists, and chances created per 90 minutes.
When he plays, Arsenal press better, move better and create more. He sets the standard out of possession as much as he does with the ball.
Tell us your thoughts on Martin Odegaard being Arsenal captain
The pivotal moment of the entire title run arguably came from Odegaard.
Coming off the bench against West Ham, he instantly unlocked a deep defensive block with the incisive pass that sent Leandro Trossard through to score the crucial winner.
He was appointed captain before the 2022/23 season — Arsenal’s first title challenge under Arteta — and the club have competed at the very top of the game ever since. That’s no coincidence.
On Sunday at Selhurst Park, Odegaard will become the first player to lift the Premier League trophy during the Emirates era, and the first Arsenal captain to do so since Patrick Vieira with the Invincibles in 2004.
Timber said they will all be smiling when they see him raise it. So will every Arsenal fan watching.
