Kai Havertz lauded for five things that make him special that are ‘all down to’ Arteta

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Mustoe believes that Mikel Arteta has found a way to get the best out of Kai Havertz at Arsenal.

Kai Havertz has been in stunning form for Arsenal in recent weeks.

The German has impressed as a false-nine in the absence of injured striker Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian is now once again available for selection, but hasn’t walked back into the regular starting XI by any means. In fact, there have been calls for Jesus to be deployed on the left flank whilst Havertz is impressing so much through the middle.

Havertz achieved a personal first in the Premier League against Brentford last time out. The 24-year-old sent the Emirates Stadium faithful into raptures in the 86th minute as he headed in Ben White’s cross from close range. This strike earned the Gunners all three points, sending them to the top of the Premier League table for the first time since Christmas. Havertz has now scored in each of his last four Premier League appearances. 

The former Chelsea man did not have an easy start to life at Arsenal, following his arrival in the recent summer transfer window. He was clearly short on confidence at the start of the season, and needed time to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s tactical instructions.

Now that he is settled, though, he is showing what he can do. With his pressing ability, physicality, hold-up play, and aerial prowess, Haverts brings a fresh dimension to Arsenal’s attacking play, as he is as important when the Gunners are out of possession as he is when the team are on the ball.

Robbie Mustoe has now highlighted a number of qualities that are helping Havertz to stand out at Arsenal. Speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, he said, “not just the goals – the sneaky tally he’s creeping up, now eight Premier League goals – but the way he plays, the aggressive nature of him. He’s a big guy. The work ethic. He’s a durable guy, always available, always fit. He runs up and down, love all that. But the goals, you’ve got to have goals from this guy, and he’s starting to score the goals…That’s all down to Mikel Arteta.”

As Mustoe says, Havertz’s aggression, aerial threat, work rate, durability, and energy levels are all a big part of his game, that the Gunners are currently benefitting from. Arteta deserves credit for his role in bringing the best out of Havertz, as he struggled to ever shine on a consistent basis in his time on the books at Stamford Bridge.
