Kai Havertz now shares personal reason why it took him ‘three months’ to settle at Arsenal

Kai Havertz has now established himself as a key player for Arsenal.

Arsenal signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Things were not easy for the German upon his arrival at the Emirates Stadium. Havertz was branded the worst signing of the summer in some quarters.

The 25-year-old initially struggled to settle in North London and adjust to Mikel Arteta’s tactics.

The Spanish coach attempted to reinvent Havertz as a midfielder. However, the new arrival looked bereft of confidence and uncomfortable in this unfamiliar role.

Arteta kept faith in Havertz though, and was rewarded for his belief midway through last season, when the player finally found his feet at the Emirates Stadium after having been shifted forward to play as a striker.

Havertz has not looked back since, and remains the first choice to lead the line for the Gunners. He has started the new season in impressive form, and will have an important role to play against PSG in this evening’s Champions League encounter.

Arsenal will need Havertz to provide a goal threat, but also hold up the ball and drag his teammates up the pitch, alleviating any pressure that the French giants might otherwise be able impose upon the hosts.

Kai Havertz explains Arsenal adjustment period

Havertz has now reflected upon his early days at Arsenal, and has admitted that he faced struggles and challenges during that period.

As quoted by the club’s official website, he said: “The journey is good for sure. It’s my second year and I’m very happy to be here.

“My development has been quite good. It took some time for me personally to fit in fast but it took me two or three months to get used to everything, to get used to the system, the teammates, the coach and it’s always a big step when you move to a different club, but I feel very good and ready to play.

“For me it was always like that. It was the same when I moved the first time to England. I think it’s quite normal, I think it just depends on your personality and how you are. Sometimes a player does it quite fast, for me it took a while, so I think it’s different from person to person.”

Havertz eyeing Arsenal glory

Havertz is now hungry for success at Arsenal. Arteta’s side will be seeking to finally beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

On top of that, Arteta will expect his side to seriously compete in the Champions League. Arsenal can send a message against PSG, showing the rest of the continent that they mean business with a convincing win over the Parisian outfit.

Havertz has admitted that winning the Champions League with Arsenal would mean more to him than triumphing in the competition as a Chelsea player did, after he scored the winning goal in the final for the Blues.
