Martin Keown has made a bold claim on TalkSport about Mesut Ozil amid rumours of an Arsenal exit this month.

The 32-year-old’s saga at the Emirates is expected by many to come to an end in the coming days. Ozil has been heavily linked with a move to Fenerbahce and a that would be the best thing for everyone.

Arteta said that Ozil’s legacy at Arsenal will not be hampered by what has happened over the last eight months. The Gunners boss claimed ‘nobody can question’ the German’s contribution at the Emirates (Goal), but Keown has had his say anyway.

The former defender believes that Ozil will not go down as an Arsenal legend as he lacks the energy levels to be regarded so highly.

However, he claims that the playmaker, signed by Arsene Wenger in 2013, would have been the club’s best-ever player if he had the same determination as one of his current teammates – Kieran Tierney.

He said: “It hurts me that a player with that talent, for whatever reason, we can’t get him on the football pitch.”

“For me, he doesn’t go down as a legend. Because he doesn’t match the determination or energy levels that I would have seen of true legends at that football club.”

“He hasn’t really played with enough determination. If he had Tierney’s determination, coupled with that ability, he might go down as probably the best player that ever played for Arsenal.”

Is Ozil an Arsenal legend?

If there is one question that would divide the entire fan base, it’s this one.

Ozil is undoubtedly one of the finest technicians to ever wear the Arsenal shirt. He joined us when we needed him the most, and he helped us end our long wait for a trophy.

However, when you think about the likes of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams, you must put the German in the tier below them irrespective of everything Ozil has done for us.
