Arsenal have had rotten luck with injuries this campaign.
The Gunners’ season came to a disappointing end when they bowed out of the Champions League following two defeats to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
Arsenal’s injury issues definitely played a part in that defeat – many fans feel that Mikel Arteta’s side would’ve won if the likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes were fit enough to play.
Havertz is back in training now, but just as he made his return from injury, another Arsenal player hurt himself and had to leave the pitch.
Gabriel Martinelli limped off the pitch after getting hurt during Arsenal training
Gabriel Martinelli has had a mixed season at Arsenal.
The Brazil international struggled with form early on in the campaign, but he produced a few good performances later on.
In the last game against Liverpool, Martinelli was brilliant as a striker in the second half, and that gave a lot of hope ahead of the clash against Newcastle United.
But, the Arsenal number 11 gave everyone a big injury scare.
The Gunners held an open training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, and many fans were in attendance to see the players prepare for this weekend’s Premier League clash.
Just as fans were celebrating Havertz’s return, Martinelli hurt himself in training, and a video uploaded by Dan Critchlow shows him limping off the pitch in pain.
The Brazilian went down the tunnel with the help of the medical staff. That didn’t look like a good sign, but there’s some good news.
Martinelli returned to training soon after
Just as fans were beginning to panic after seeing Martinelli go down the tunnel injured, the Brazilian reappeared.
The 23-year-old must have received treatment from the medical staff, and Critchlow revealed on X that he appeared to be running fine after entering training again.
Hopefully, it’s just a scare for Martinelli, and with the game against Newcastle not until Sunday, he should be able to recover in time.
In the small chance that he’s not able to continue training, Arteta has a couple of options.
Leandro Trossard is the obvious replacement, and the Belgian was spotted in training on Wednesday despite hurting himself against Liverpool.
Kieran Tierney would be the other senior option for Arteta on the left-wing, while Riccardo Calafiori could also play there if required.
