There were plenty of rumours regarding Edu’s next steps, with some clarity on the situation now provided.
First, journalist David Ornstein confirmed that Edu will join Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ working group.
Nothing has been signed as of yet however, the Brazilian is set to depart North London for good to enrol in the multi-club model, becoming responsible for adding to the collection of sides and growing the operation.
To add to Ornstein’s report, fellow reporter Ben Jacobs shared an insight into what tempted Edu to become a part of Marinakis’ project, which currently involves Forest, Rio Ave and Olympiacos.
Jacobs relayed that one of the ‘key points that attracted Edu’ was ‘control’, it’s understood that the Arsenal man will take on a ‘CEO of football’ role, which will give him the freedom to lead.
Edu ready to part ways with Mikel Arteta
Over the years at Arsenal, Edu has had an impact in a variety of areas, including transfers.
Not only has the Brazilian helped to restore the culture around the club on the pitch, but also through signings.
The likes of William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Magalhaes were captured under Edu’s watch, three players who have become the spine of Arsenal’s squad.
Losing the sporting director will be a huge loss for the manager to deal with however, it’s reported that Arteta will have control over Edu’s successor, with a lot poised to happen over the coming weeks behind the scenes.
