Arsenal stars at risk of Champions League ban

Arsenal are set to welcome Real Madrid to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as the teams face off in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

There are some team issues for Mikel Arteta to address, with suspensions and injuries becoming a problem for the manager.

That could become even worse as both Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Martinelli are suspension doubts going into the match.

Mark Clattenburg reveals the difference between Champions League refereeing and Premier League

As Arsenal prepare for such a huge clash in the Champions League, one of the talking points will likely surround the refereeing.

Many notice some differences between how games are officiated in the Premier League compared to Europe, with small changes made.

Speaking exclusively to Arsenal Insider, former referee Mark Clattenburg revealed exactly what changes in the competition.

“What I have seen so far this season, the referees in Europe have allowed the game to flow and only use VAR when a clear mistake has occurred, which helps the games to be more exciting,” Clattenburg said.

“One big difference between UEFA and the Premier League referees is that UEFA punish handball more, especially when the hand or arm is slightly away from the body.

“Now both completions use the semi-automated system for offsides, so we should see quicker decisions if they are factual decisions. We still have the subjective ones where there is someone interfering.”
