Arsenal were the subject of jibes and taunts from the footballing world back in 2013 when they made an offer of £40m + £1 for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Former chief transfer negotiator for the club Richard Law has been speaking to journalist Charles Watts about that infamous bid and revealed the truth surrounding what Arsenal believed.
Law stated: “We could have said £41 million, we could have said £45 million, we could have said £105 million. The only thing we were trying to do was trigger a conversation.
“Yes, in terms of a public perception and retrospect and everything else, yeah, if we had offered £45 million, I doubt the response from Liverpool would’ve been what it was.”
The Gunners went on to sign Mesut Ozil for £42.5m that summer and had Suarez’s bid been accepted, we would never have seen the German grace North London.
