Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher admits he ‘loves’ one ‘brilliant’ Arsenal player

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has now confessed that he is a huge fan of Arsenal star Declan Rice.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice once again stole the headlines on Tuesday evening with his late winner against Luton Town.

The former West Ham United man has rapidly established himself as a star at the Emirates Stadium since his club-record £105 million move in the recent summer transfer window.

His strike at Kenilworth Road was his second last-gasp winner for the Gunners already this season, having made a similar impact late on against Manchester United earlier on in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta won’t be surprised to see Rice proving that he can be an effective presence in the final third. Rice has spoken out publicly about the fact that the Spanish coach wants to see him get involved in more advanced areas on the pitch than he has previously. 

Despite already being a top class player, there may well be even more to come from the 24-year-old, especially if he can make a goalscoring a more regular feature of his game.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is a great admirer of the England man. Speaking on The Overlap, he said, “he’s brilliant. I love Declan Rice, honestly.”

Arsenal fans love Rice too, and are already convinced that he is living up to his price tag. He has been a revelation since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, bringing so much energy, drive, physicality and personality to the middle of the park. Arteta has already tipped Rice to be a future Arsenal captain.

It is now vital that the player is able to stay fit and in form throughout the rest of the season. Thomas Partey’s injury issues mean that he cannot be relied upon to be available for any extended period. Jorginho would struggle to feature in the starting XI week in, week out at this stage of his career. Mohamed Elneny, meanwhile, is not of the standard required in the middle of the park for a title chasing side.

Whilst the Gunners are actively looking to bring in midfield reinforcements, there is currently a lot of pressure on Rice to a bear a heavy burden in that part of the pitch. So far he has looked to be more than up to that task, and is indeed thriving with the responsibility that has been handed to him by the north London club.
