Arsenal go into the pre-season friendly against Liverpool with a healthy team with Arteta yet to hear any negative injury news. The Gunners have also been boosted by the arrival of new summer signing Riccardo Calafiori, who joined Arsenal in America straight after his transfer.

Arteta remains without William Saliba plus his Euro 2024 finalists, champion David Raya plus Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Declan Rice. Arsenal have given them extended breaks as a result of France, Spain and England’s efforts in Germany and will join the squad in England.

Prediction

Arsenal return home to England following their friendly with Liverpool, so Arteta will want to see the Gunners leave their pre-season tour of America with another win. The Emirates Stadium club have minutes in their legs and took their first win against Manchester United.

The Philadelphia affair will likely also be the last real chance that Arsenal’s academy players get to impress Arteta. Fixtures with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon round off the Gunners’ pre-season schedule in N5, during which Arteta will want his top XI to start finding their groove.

A strong performance could also help Karl Hein secure a loan move to a top team ahead of Raya and Ramsdale returning. But the Estonia goalkeeper will have his work cut out to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool, which Rasmus Hojlund only needed 10 minutes to deny him.

Liverpool, however, are only two games into their pre-season and struggled to create a heap of promising scoring chances against Real Betis last time out. Dominik Szoboszlai fired the only goal of the match on 34 minutes as Slot strived to implement a possession-based style.
