David Raya has received a lot of praise for his performances at Arsenal this season.
The Spaniard has saved the Gunners on plenty of occasions, and he is one of the biggest reasons why they are nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Everyone in England knows just how good Raya is, but it’s very different in Spain, says their manager, Luis de la Fuente.
David Raya says he will go ‘bald’ if Arsenal win the Premier League. What will you do?
Luis de la Fuente says nobody even talks about David Raya in Spain
David Raya is the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, a club who are the favourites to win the Premier League and Champions League this season.
The Spaniard’s performances have been so impressive that he is regarded by many as the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
Recently, Thierry Henry even claimed that Raya deserves the player of the season award because of how good he has been.
However, despite that, Spain have Unai Simon as their number one goalkeeper, and that is not expected to change ahead of the World Cup.

De la Fuente backed the Athletic Club shot stopper as his main man again, but La Roja boss then made a very interesting claim about how nobody in Spain talks about Raya.
He said, as per The Metro: “I don’t have to reaffirm Unai’s place. It would be unfair if we didn’t value Unai’s quality, class, career, and professional experience.
“It would be absurd for me to have to come here and reaffirm it, just because he’s Unai Simon. When a goalkeeper is at this level, you have to respect his standing and his career.
“Besides, we have David Raya, who I’m eager for you to ask me about. In England, they consider him the best goalkeeper in the world, and here (in Spain) nobody talks about him.”
Who should be Spain’s starting goalkeeper at the 2026 FIFA World Cup – David Raya or Unai Simon?
Arsenal’s David Raya deserves more recognition in Spain
Simon has done a great job as Spain’s number one.
The Athletic Club goalkeeper definitely does not deserve to be dropped, but that doesn’t mean he has been better than Raya this season.
Simon has conceded 60 goals in 38 games this campaign and has kept just seven clean sheets. The Arsenal number one, on the other hand, has kept 21 clean sheets in 40 games, letting in just 25 goals.
Yes, Raya plays for a better side, but he comes up against better attackers in the Premier League too.
De la Fuente may still stick with Simon, which is fine, but people in Spain need to start talking about how good Raya is. He is the best in the world right now!
