Arsenal finished above Manchester City last season but still the Premier League title evaded them.

Having finished runners-up in Titanic battles during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 season, Mikel Arteta’s side would have been confident of finally claiming the title by finishing above the reigning champions.

However, Arne Slot’s Liverpool side came storming through to claim the crown by ten points and Arsenal had to settle for second place once again.

This season Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to be the front-runners for the Premier League crown but one Manchester City player has turned up the heat on the Gunners with a cheeky dig at the club.

Ruben Dias aims dig at Arsenal’s Premier League finish last season

Speaking to The Telegraph, Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has aimed a dig at Arsenal’s Premier League points tally by eluding to the fact his side only finished three points behind the Gunners.

Pep Guardiola’s side struggled last season both domestically and in Europe and ended the campaign trophyless.

Dias stated: “At the end of the day, we were third in the league in probably the most difficult league in the world. And three points behind Arsenal, who supposedly did a great season.”

Many believe that City will pose a stronger threat this season and that looked to be the case as they demolished Wolves 4-0 on the opening day.

However, that was swiftly followed by a 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in a result that may have sent alarm bells ringing around the Etihad once again.

Statement away victory over Manchester City will be on Mikel Arteta’s agenda this season

Arsenal haven’t won away at Manchester City since 2015 and if they are to go and finally claim that elusive Premier League title, that surely must change for Arteta’s side this season.

They have come close in recent fixtures, a 0-0 draw in the 2023-24 season was followed by a dramatic 2-2 draw last season.

Goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes put the Gunners on course to win the match before Leandro Trossard’s controversial red card.

John Stones ended up equalising in the last minute of stoppage time to salvage a point for the home side, however, on current form Arsenal will fancy their chances of going one better this campaign.
