Noni Madueke has given Arsenal the lead at half-time against Club Brugge in the Champions League, and Martin Keown has been full of praise for the attacker.
The winger produced a sensational strike to make it back-to-back goals in the competition, with Madueke having also scored against Bayern Munich.
Fill in the blank: Madueke’s strike is the best long range goal Arsenal have scored since _______
The 24-year-old cut in from the right and from outside the penalty area, unleashing a wicked strike which crashed in off the crossbar.
Keown has now called for the former Chelsea star to be paired with Bukayo Saka for the Gunners moving forward, although Mikel Arteta faces an obvious issue.
Martin Keown calls for Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke to start for Arsenal
Martin Keown has called for Arteta to start both Saka and Noni Madueke together at Arsenal following the latter’s goal against Club Brugge.
The pair have played just five times for the Gunners and started together on one occasion, with both having had injury issues this season.
The Arsenal legend has now called for Madueke to start on the left and Saka on the right when everyone is fully fit.
Where is Noni Madueke’s best position for Arsenal?
Can Arteta fit him into the team with Saka?
Keown told TNT Sports commentary: “I think if we do start looking at the best 11, does Madueke end up on the left, with Saka on the right. We’ve not really seen the two players available together this season. He’s rested right now, Saka.”
The obvious issue facing Arteta is that both Saka and Madueke are at their best when operating on the right, so it’s unclear whether Madueke would work playing on the opposite flank.
Micah Richards thinks Madueke looks like a ‘new player’ and his form makes it very tricky for Arsenal to leave him on the bench.
Eberechi Eze struggled on the left against Aston Villa, and with Leandro Trossard now injured, that spot in the team is up for grabs.
