There has been increased speculation regarding the fitness of Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian hasn’t featured for the Gunners since the 1-1 draw at the Emirates against Brighton back in August.

Mikel Arteta was dealt the blow during the September international break, as Odegaard returned to London on crutches after suffering a freak ankle injury.

While it was expected that the midfielder would be out of action until after the October international break, speculation has grown on social media regarding the speed of his recovery.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has not suffered an injury setback

Despite the break in domestic play, Arsenal fans have still been fuelled with anxiety as a result of rumours about Odegaard’s fitness.

It’s been reported on social media platforms by various sources that the Gunners skipper had suffered an injury setback, which could rule him out until December.

Fans grew incredibly worried as a result however, an update on the situation has now been provided by Sky Sports.

On Sky Sports News, it was reported that Odegaard has not suffered a setback and remains on course to return to action next month.

“Contrary to reports on social media, Martin Odegaard has not suffered a setback and Arsenal are hopeful he can return from his ankle injury in November.”

The update comes as great relief to those at the Emirates, as Arteta’s side have missed the creativity and leadership of their captain in his absence.

Mikel Arteta has been unlucky with injuries this season

While the latest news concerning Odegaard is positive, it’s not all rosy in North London, as the update followed the confirmation of Bukayo Saka’s withdrawal from the England squad

The winger suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the Three Lions’ defeat to Greece, seeing him withdraw from the squad to return to Arsenal for assessment.

It’s the last thing that Arteta would have wanted to hear, with the manager yet to have his best XI available this season, taking into consideration the unavailability of new signing Mikel Merino shortly after his arrival.

There will be optimism that Saka’s return to Arsenal is a precautionary measure to complement the positive update on Odegaard’s recovery timeframe.
