Martin Odegaard has now provided Arsenal fans with an insight into his own personal pre-season progress.
Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the US has now drawn to a close. The Gunners signed off in Philadelphia last night, with a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.
Of course, Mikel Arteta will have wanted to win the match, but the results of these pre-season friendlies is ultimately unimportant. These games simply provide an opportunity for players to build up their fitness ahead of the proper campaign.
Martin Odegaard is one such player who needs to make sure he is in peak physical condition by the time the new Premier League season gets underway. The Norwegian playmaker is one of the hardest working players in Arteta’s squad.
He runs relentlessly, and starts virtually every game for the club. Odegaard has been called a perfect Arsenal captain due to these attributes, but they also test his body to the limit. It is vital, therefore, that he gets a solid pre-season under his belt.
In that regard, the former Real Madrid man started early this summer. Odegaard was part of Arteta’s Marbella training camp, along with a number of other Arsenal stars.

Martin Odegaard still short of his best as Arsenal pre-season continues
Whilst Odegaard has already put a huge amount of effort in this summer during pre-season, there is still work for him to do.
Speaking to the HaytersTV YouTube channel about his current condition, the 25-year-old said: “Yeah, I’ve felt good from the first day that I was back, I think I did a good job in the summer. I think there is still a lot more to come, and a lot of room for improvement. I think the sharpness will come with the games. Still not there quite yet, but I think I’m doing ok.”
There are still a couple of friendlies left to play before the Gunners kick off their Premier League campaign at the Emirates Stadium against Wolves on August 17th, so the midfielder still has time to get up to 100%.
Odegaard the key to Arsenal title chances
Arsenal have been tipped to win the Premier League title this season, but will not be able to do so without Odegaard remaining fit and firing on all cylinders.
He is a talismanic figure for the Gunners, who leads by example and is able to change a game with a moment of magic. Whilst Arteta will look to strengthen his squad in the transfer market this summer, Odegaard will remain the heartbeat of this team.
