The Premier League asked a number of players, including Martin Odegaard, which retired player they’d love to have in their team.

Many of them named Thierry Henry, who is widely regarded as the greatest player to ever grace England’s top flight.

Odegaard: “I’m going to have to say Thierry.”

Josh King: “Probably Thierry Henry. I think it’s inevitable that he’d impact the game. His dribbling was incredible and obviously his finishing, especially into the far corner, was a joke.”

Sepp van den Berg: “Thierry Henry.”

Eli Junior Kroupi: “Thierry Henry.”

Jacob Ramsay: “Thierry Henry.”

Interestingly, some of the aforementioned players would’ve have been old enough to watch Henry play during his prime, so it just shows how iconic he is.

Henry is the type of player who transcends generations, with his highlights shown for many years after his retirement.

Oliver Giroud recently said Henry was an even better player than Kylian Mbappe, which says quite a lot considering how often he’s played with the Real Madrid star.

Cesc Fabregas also hailed the Arsenal legend in recent months, comparing him to Lionel Messi for his mentality.

“Thierry was a special, special character. I never told him this… I respected him so much that I was scared of him. I was so scared because he was an idol, he was the leader, and inside, this guy was so serious and was a winner.

“Two guys that in my career I thought were complete winners – one is Leo Messi. I’d never seen someone with that winning mentality. The other one I would say is Thierry.”
