Arsenal badly missed captain Martin Odegaard in their defeat to Newcastle, but he could be set to return to action soon.
The midfielder has found himself on the bench recently after a dip in form, whilst Mikel Arteta also revealed that he has been carrying a knock for some time.
He was absent from the squad entirely for the trip to Newcastle, with his injury ruling him out of the game, and Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat without him.
However, with a Champions League tie at home to Sevilla on the horizon, Arteta may be able to count on the Norweigan soon.
Odegaard could return against Sevilla
A report from Football.London has now revealed that Odegaard was left out of the Newcastle clash as he could not be passed fit in time, but his hip injury is not thought to be serious ahead of a potential return this week.
He is expected to return to the squad against Sevilla, but it is still unclear if he will start.
Odegaard’s absence showed why criticism was unjustified

Arsenal struggled without their captain at St James’ Park, as despite dominating possession, they recorded just one shot on target.
Kai Havertz played in his position, and delivered an improved performance after his struggles, but could not help Arsenal create anything, in what has been a big problem for Mikel Arteta this season.
Odegaard has been criticised following a dip in form, but the defeat to Newcastle showed that Arsenal still need him in the side to create chances, and it would be a massive boost if he can return against Sevilla.
A win on Wednesday would almost certainly guarantee a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League, and if Arsenal can get the job done now, they may be able to rotate for the final two group-stage games.
