Arsenal clinched a place in the last-16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Girona in Spain.

Arsenal fell behind thanks to former Spurs forward Arnaud Danjuma but were soon back on level terms as Thomas Partey won a penalty that was coolly converted by Jorginho.

Ethan Nwaneri sparkled in the Arsenal player ratings and struck the winner with a superb strike just before half time to seal the three points.

David Raya missed the game due to injury but after the game he gave an indication as to how severe his injury may be ahead of a crunch clash against Manchester City next up.

David Raya spotted in his kit at full time of Girona clash as Mikel Arteta gives injury update

Speaking at his post-match press conference of Girona v Arsenal, Mikel Arteta gave an update on the injury situation of his number one goalkeeper.

Arteta stated: “He certainly could not play, he’s injured. Let’s see how he improves.”

This will of huge worry to Arsenal fans as they prepare to face the champions City at the Emirates Stadium however, Raya may have then eased those fears with his actions at full time of the Girona clash.

Waving to the fans, friends and family in his kit would suggest that Raya himself is not too concerned about his current fitness.

Raya has been an integral part of Arsenal’s excellent defensive record this season, keeping eight clean sheets in the Premier League and conceding just two goals in the Champions League.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Arteta was very proud of his players’ efforts in progressing through the competition in third place.

Arteta stated: “Its so tough, I think we won the last four games of the Champions League. What you have to do to win games in the Champions League is very demanding. More belief in that dressing room that we are a good team and we can beat anyone.”

With their defensive record so far in the competition, Arsenal will certainly be a team that many would want to avoid moving forward to the latter stages.
