Mikel Arteta is privately ‘quite excited’ about what £52m player will do for Arsenal this season

Mikel Arteta is particularly happy with what he’s seeing from one of Arsenal’s summer signings so far.

It’s been a busy summer for the Gunners, who welcomed six new faces in time to have an impact in pre-season.

Arteta’s wish was to get the majority of Arsenal’s summer business done before the squad’s pre-season plans, which fortunately happened. 

There’s work yet to be done, but the Arsenal manager is overly satisfied with his new additions so far, with one building excitement around the Emirates. 

Mikel Arteta is excited about Noni Madueke

Though the talk of Arsenal’s pre-season with regard to new signings was how impressive Martin Zubimendi has been, it’s Noni Madueke who has excited Arteta. 

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Premier League All Access podcast, journalist Alex Crook spoke about Arsenal’s summer business, noting how Arteta feels about Madueke. 

“They’ll be hoping that Gyokeres and Madueke, who I know Mikel Arteta is quite excited about, can make up for that in terms of lack of goals.”

Madueke has already impressed Arsenal’s coaching staff with his quality in training and will be doing all he can to get a starting spot at Old Trafford. 

As well as sharing Arteta’s thoughts on his new £52m winger, Crook shared his prediction of whether Arsenal can win the league.

“If the two centre-backs stay fit, I would expect them to be close to keep the most clean sheets, if not the best defence in the league. Will they win it?

“We’ll come on to it later, but again, I’ve said it when we did the big feature on Arsenal, I see them being bridesmaids again.”

Arteta doesn’t want to continue his streak of never being the bride, as the Gunners have missed out on the league title for three consecutive seasons now.

The club’s six new signings certainly add some much-needed firepower, with Madueke being one who could make a lot of difference.

Madueke’s strengths in the Premier League last season

Though Madueke’s transfer has generated a lot of negative discussion, there’s every confidence that the 23-year-old will silence his doubters. 

It’s not only confidence that suggests so, as his numbers last season in the Premier League inform just how dangerous he is in the wide areas.

Madueke ranked as one of the best in his position in the Premier League when it came to ball carrying and also shooting, ranking in the top 4% of wingers when it came to shots per 90.

There’s every reason for Arsenal to be excited by Madueke, just as Arteta is, with all eyes on what he can produce in his debut campaign in red and white.
