Arsenal are in unfamiliar territory after beating Sunderland 3-0 at the Emirates on matchday 25.

The Premier League title race is Arsenal’s to lose, as the Gunners extended their lead at the summit to nine points against Sunderland.

Manchester City face a challenging trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, a match that every member of the Arsenal squad will surely tune in to.

For Mikel Arteta, nothing changes, as there are still 39 points to play for, but the Arsenal manager must take a moment to realise what he’s just achieved.

Arsenal achieve something for the first time since the Invincibles

Arsenal broke a Premier League record against Sunderland to become the first side to go 44 home games unbeaten against newly promoted teams.

While the achievement is a statement, it wasn’t the biggest statement the Gunners made in N5, not by a long mile.

By extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points, Arsenal have recorded their biggest lead at the summit since the 2003/04 season.

What happened in that campaign, I wonder?

The Invincibles, of course, which sets Arteta up very well to win the league at Arsenal for the first time in 22 years.

The nine-point gap could be reduced as soon as tomorrow, as Man City face Liverpool, but the fact that it’s been recorded is a statement in itself.

Arsenal’s chance of winning the Premier League rises again

Arsenal have been incredible so far this season, which is why, right now, the Gunners are the clear favourites to win the Premier League.

Opta’s supercomputer boosted Arsenal’s chances of topping the table in May to a massive 93.03%.

It makes for very encouraging reading, but the last thing that Arteta’s squad needs is to feel any sense of complacency.

The title is not won, but if things continue, it will be, giving the players an incentive greater than anything the club have felt since the Invincibles season.
