Arsenal once again failed to overcome Aston Villa at the Emirates, drawing 2-2 with Unai Emery’s side.
The Gunners were 2-0 up against Villa in front of a home crowd before the visitors found a way back into the contest.
Within eight minutes, Arsenal’s two-goal lead disappeared as Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins levelled the scoring.
Arsenal had a goal ruled out in the dying embers as Kai Havertz handled the ball, seeing the points shared between Mikel Arteta and Emery.

Arsenal reach Premier League milestone for the first time in five years
Arteta insisted he was proud of his side’s performance however, there’s a lot to be said about how the hosts squandered a two-goal lead.
Things quickly crumbled for Arsenal as control was lost, seeing the dream of three points disappear as Villa fought back.
It was Arsenal’s eighth draw of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with the result representing a dire record.
Only 22 games into the campaign, Arsenal have already dropped 12 points from winning positions, representing their most in a season in five years.
During the 2019/20 calendar, the Gunners dropped 21 points in the season, with the record at risk of being closed down if inconsistent form continues.
Considering that Arsenal finished eighth that year, Arteta must realise just how concerning his squad’s decline is, with a lot going wrong in N5 right now.
Arsenal have dropped more points from winning positions than relegation candidates
Dropping points at the current rate is a concern for Arsenal, who are drifting away from Liverpool in the title race.
To Arteta’s frustration, Liverpool have dropped the least points this season with only four dropped when ahead, eight fewer than the Gunners.
| # | Club | Points dropped |
| 1 | Liverpool | 4 |
| 2 | Newcastle Utd | 4 |
| 3 | West Ham Utd | 5 |
| 4 | Manchester Utd | 6 |
| 5 | Bournemouth | 7 |
| 6 | Everton | 8 |
| 7 | Leicester City | 8 |
| 8 | Chelsea | 9 |
| 9 | Crystal Palace | 9 |
| 10 | Arsenal | 12 |
As seen above, the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City have dropped fewer points from winning positions than Arsenal, in what must be a wake-up call for the squad.
The challenges are going to continue to come thick and fast for Arteta’s side, who must turn things around if they wish for the season to end in silverware.
