Mikel Arteta is the most important man at Arsenal right now.
The Spaniard took charge of the club in 2019, when he had zero experience as a manager. The Gunners’ board put their faith in him and he has delivered.
Arteta has turned Arsenal into one of the best clubs in the world. They have challenged for the Premier League title two seasons in a row, and they are expected to be around this time as well.
The one small concern for Arsenal fans, however, is regarding Arteta’s future at the club.
Why Mikel Arteta hasn’t signed a new Arsenal contract?
Arteta has entered the final year of his contract at Arsenal.
The Spaniard last penned a three-year deal in May 2022, and his time at the Emirates since has been extremely positive. He has truly revolutionised the club.
Reports revealed in June that Arteta would sign a new contract soon. It was again claimed at the start of August that the Arsenal manager was close to penning a new deal.
However, so far, nothing has happened.
In his press conference ahead of the game against Aston Villa, Arteta was asked about an update on his contract as everyone expected it to be done by now.
The Arsenal manager revealed that the reason for the delay is that everyone has been focused on the transfer market. Once the window shuts, his contract should be done.
He said when asked about his contract: “The focus has been on the transfer window and we had quite a lot of things to do, to discuss. We are on it (contract) and we will take care of that at the right moment.”
When asked if he would sit down and have those contract talks after the window closes, Arteta replied: “Yeah!”
Arsenal players whose contracts will expire in the next two years
Arteta signing a new deal would be a huge move by Arsenal, and we expect that to happen soon after the transfer window shuts.
Once that’s done, there are a few decisions the Gunners have to make about some members of their first-team squad.
Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s contracts will expire in 2025 – there is an option to extend the Italian’s contract by another year.
In 2026, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Aaron Ramsdale’s deals will run out – again, there is an option to extend the latter two’s deals by another 12 months.
We expect most of the above players, if not all of them, to be sold by the summer of 2026.
