Mikel Arteta to Barcelona claim

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has claimed that it would make sense for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to make the switch to the Nou Camp. It comes as Xavi Hernandez is set to leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season.

With the need for a new manager, plenty of attention has turned towards a potential move for Arteta. Speaking to The Times, Pique said: “To manage Barca you need to be a specific type of coach and to understand the way Barça play, so the options are much less.

“The obvious ones are [Pep] Guardiola, because he had his past here, and he is the best coach right now, and Arteta. He would be a good one also. He understands Barcelona and played for Barca in the past.”

Bayern Munich advantage

Ex-striker Ian Wright has admitted he fears for Arsenal in their clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, due to the threat of Harry Kane. The former Tottenham forward has a record for scoring against the Gunners over the years.

Speaking on ‘Wrighty’s House’ podcast, Wright said: “I think that when you look at Bayern, if you play Bayern and you are moving it quick like we can do, of course we can hurt them, we have to move it quickly and we have to be ruthless.

“The fact is that Harry Kane against Arsenal is almost like a 1-0 to them already, I can’t remember him not scoring against us. That frightens me, but I know we can score a couple of goals against Bayern, I really genuinely believe we can.”

Takehiro Tomiyasu claim

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu won’t be joining up with the Japan squad for the coming international break. The 25-year-old has been suffering with a few injury troubles since returning from the AFC Asian Cup.

Discussing the decision, manager Hajime Moriyasu said: “Tomi hasn’t played yet. The main reason is that he hasn’t played a match. We have confirmed that he is definitely recovering and is fit to play.

“In that sense it might have been possible to call him up and have him play, but we decided first of all that he hasn’t played. I think we have to think player first there. The next game will definitely be intense and tough. In a situation where he’s not playing there, of course we might still ask him to play, but this time we decided not to call him up because of the risk of injury and because we haven’t confirmed how much he can play.

“I didn’t call him up, firstly for his own sake and for the sake of his club, because I don’t want the same thing to happen again, and also because I thought that if he showed a solid performance on the Arsenal and Premier League stage, he would naturally become an asset for the national team.”
