Mikel Arteta urged to play ‘outstanding’ Arsenal player in completely different position

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been urged by Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass to play Kai Havertz in a completely different position.

The German international was signed by the Gunners from Chelsea last summer in a £65m deal that caught a lot of fans and pundits by surprise.

With Granit Xhaka leaving for Bayer Leverkusen, it appears that Havertz was signed as a replacement for the Swiss international, though the 24-year-old’s role at Arsenal has been interesting, to say the least.

Havertz’s role in recent weeks has seen the versatile talent play in the attack, with the former Chelsea star thriving in the false-nine role in a recent win against Liverpool.

And speaking to Pitch Side, EFL star Windass has urged Arteta to keep playing Havertz in this position, even if the German international impressed on the weekend against Burnley in the midfield.

Windass said: “I didn’t think he was that unbelievable. I was asking Reece James around two years ago who the best player at Chelsea was and he said ‘Kai Havertz’.

“He was outstanding against us for Leverkusen against us (at Rangers). He’s obviously a good player, but I think he’s a false-nine, I don’t know if anyone else agrees so I might get hammered for that.”

Havertz continues to improve for Arsenal as the north London side put in yet another brilliant performance on the weekend with a 5-0 win against Burnley.

Whilst the former Chelsea man managed just one goal, Havertz was key to every single one of Arsenal’s goals on the day, with the midfielder thriving in this new-look system.

Indeed, Havertz starting up-front does make sense in some fixtures where Arsenal need the physicality in the attack, with Liverpool the prime example.

Yet for other games, Havertz in midfield is clearly the way to go for Arsenal, with the German international getting better every week in his new role alongside his teammates.
