Amid Arsenal’s defensive injury crisis, Mikel Arteta will be kicking himself seeing how well Jakub Kiwior is now doing at FC Porto.
Arsenal sold Kiwior for £29 million in the summer, but that now looks to be a poor judgement given his recent performances and the Gunners’ need for a defender.
When Gabriel Magalhaes was sidelined towards the end of last season, Kiwior stepped up and was particularly impressive against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.
Finish the sentence: If I were Mikel Arteta, I would have ______________ Jakub Kiwior in the summer…
Keep, loan or sold?
The defender is now flying in Portugal with Porto, and the club’s supporters are all in agreement over their deal for the Polish international.
Porto fans are so happy with Jakub Kiwior’s performances
FC Porto fans have been raving about the recent performances of Jakub Kiwior, who has been flying this season in the Liga NOS.
Francesco Farioli’s team currently lead the way in the Portuguese top flight by five points and are on the way to winning their first league title since 2022.
At the heart of Porto’s defence, Kiwior has been one of the most crucial players in the team and is set to play a key role in what could be a historic season.
Porto are yet to lose a match, 14 games into the new campaign, and have incredibly conceded just four times, which has been in part due to Kiwior’s brilliance.
Following the team’s latest 3-1 win over Estrela Amadora, the club’s supporters have now taken to X to share their appreciation for the defender.
One fan said: “If we win the championship, it will be here that we won it. Sporting cheated with Gyokeres, and we cheated with Kiwior.”
“I don’t think we realised how important this sign was. Thanks for everything, Arsenal,” claimed another.
There was yet more praise for the defender: “Best centre-back in the league, he is miles ahead of any other defender.”
Finally, another fan stated: “The best centre-back in our league. I can’t even remember a left-footed centre-back of this level playing for Porto.”
Mikel Arteta will have mixed feelings about Jakub Kiwior’s form
Arteta will surely have mixed feelings about Kiwior’s form, as despite getting a good fee for him, he could have been a useful asset to this Arsenal squad.
Last season, the Pole stepped up when needed and now Arsenal really could do with another defender in their ranks. Currently, the Gunners are without Gabriel, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera, leaving them a little light in defence.
If you could rush back to full fitness one of Arsenal’s injured stars, which player would you choose?
Kiwior also offered Arteta versatility as he made 38 appearances at centre-back, but he also slotted in at left-back on 25 occasions.
The Gunners could really do with a player like him right now, so seeing him do so well at Porto will be quite frustrating.
