One of Mikel Arteta’s first assistants at Arsenal is now said to be on his way to join Manchester United’s coaching staff.
Arteta has made quite a few changes to his backroom staff since he was appointed as the Arsenal boss back in December 2019.
The Arsenal coaching staff now is truly elite, and that is one of the biggest reasons why they have challenged for the Premier League title two seasons in a row.
However, there were hugely talented people before the current group as well. One of them is joining Erik ten Hag’s staff at Manchester United.
Former Arsenal coach Andreas Georgson is joining Manchester United
When Arteta first joined Arsenal in December 2019, he brought Albert Stuivenberg and Steve Round with him as his assistants and also appointed Inaki Cana as the goalkeeping coach.
Just eight months later, ahead of the start of his first full season at the club, the Spaniard made three more appointments – Andreas Georgson, Miguel Molina and Carlos Cuesta joined the club.
The latter two are still at Arsenal and are key members of Arteta’s staff, but Georgson didn’t stay too long at the Emirates. He left the club less than a year after he joined to become the head of first-team football at Malmo.
Now, after three years, Georgson is said to be on his way to Manchester United.
Nettavisen has revealed that Georgson has been offered a job by the Red Devils to be a part of Ten Hag’s backroom staff.
The report claims that if all formalities can be completed, he could even be announced as a new arrival by Manchester United before the game against Arsenal.
Jan Aage Fjortoft has also confirmed on X that Georgson is joining Manchester United soon.
Arsenal appointed a genius to replace Georgson
When Georgson handed his resignation at Arsenal after being offered a key role at Malmo, Arteta turned to his former employers, Manchester City.
The Spaniard convinced Nicolas Jover to leave Pep Guardiola’s side and join Arsenal to become the club’s new set-piece coach.
That move has proved to be a game-changer as Jover has transformed Arsenal over the years. He has helped the Gunners become one of the best teams in Europe in set-pieces and is a real genius in that department.
Manchester United are a long way off Arsenal and their defending in set-pieces in the 2023/24 season was really poor.
That’s probably why they are appointing Georgson, and although he may not be as good as Jover, he will help them get better.
