Darren England appointed referee for Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest
The Premier League have announced that Darren England will referee Arsenal’s upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest.
England was the man on VAR back in January when Hale End star Lewis-Skelly was wrongly sent off by Michael Oliver during a 1-0 victory over Wolves.
Lewis-Skelly’s red card v Wolves was overturned for an ‘obvious error’ made by the referee on field, however, it was also not spotted by England on VAR that day.
The 18-year-old has not had the start to the season he was hoping for and having England appointed referee may just add to his frustrations.
Lewis-Skelly was omitted from England’s squad to face Serbia for ‘tactical and physical’ reasons and will now be hoping to get back to playing for the Gunners.
Myles Lewis-Skelly faces battle for regular Arsenal place this season
Arsenal have just announced that Riccardo Calafiori has won the club’s August player of the month award for his performances from left back.
The Italian has provided a goal and two assists so far this season and arguably been the most consistent performer for Arteta.
Lewis-Skelly struggled for England against Andorra in his most recent display and faces a real battle to get back into the Arsenal side on a regular basis.
Injuries and suspensions gave Lewis-Skelly the chance to shine last season, however, the youngster may have to accept more of a season of development this time around.
His rapid rise to fame and attention should not distract Arsenal fans from the fact that he is still only 18 years of age and has a lot to learn about all aspects of the game.
