Arsenal forward Kai Havertz worked under Thomas Tuchel in the time they shared at Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel could soon return to English shores.

The German coach was most recently in charge of Bayern Munich, but has been without a club since leaving the Bundesliga giants at the end of last season.

Tuchel is close to becoming England manager, as per the BBC, with Lee Carsley having taken temporary charge of the national team since Gareth Southgate stepped down from the post following Euro 2024.

The 51-year-old has never taken charge of an international side before, but is certainly familiar with English football, having previously enjoyed a stint in charge of Chelsea.

He has won trophies throughout his managerial career, but Tuchel’s only Champions League triumph so far came whilst he was in charge of the Blues, with Kai Havertz netting the winning goal in that 2021 final.

That goal was undoubtedly the highlight of Havertz’s Chelsea career, but the 25-year-old has taken his game to a new level since joining Arsenal, and is currently thriving under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.

Havertz has admitted that winning the Champions League with the Gunners would mean more to him than his success in the tournament with Chelsea does.

Kai Havertz discusses working with Thomas Tuchel

The Arsenal forward has previously spoken out about his experiences of working under Tuchel, and what the coach demands from his players.

Havertz can certainly warn his Arsenal teammates who represent the Three Lions, such as Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, what to expect from their potential new national team boss.

Speaking to Tz back in March 2023, Havertz said: “No matter how good the games were, if you had a bad pass in it, he was never completely satisfied. Every pass is played with the right focus and into the right foot. Not too soft, not too hard, but still spicy – just perfect.

“At that moment you think: ‘Woah, I could freak out.’ But then you sleep on it one night and you know: He was right, I did it badly. That’s the only way to improve, when you’re sometimes told the truth to your face.”

Havertz thriving with different approach at Arsenal

Whilst Havertz clearly enjoyed aspects of working with Tuchel, and feels that he improved as a player under his guidance, the striker has certainly taken greater strides whilst working with Arteta.

The attacker has been in blistering form so far this season, and is exuding a level of confidence that he rarely, if ever, displayed during his time at Stamford Bridge.

This has led to huge improvements on the pitch. Havertz has been more productive for Arsenal in front of goal than he was for Chelsea, and Arteta deserves huge credit for inspiring the player to raise his game.
