Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has endured a difficult season so far.

Injury issues have once again been a problem for Gabriel Jesus, who has been restricted to 15 Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season. 

Even when fit, though, the Brazilian has struggled to shine, as he has just 3 top flight goals under his belt so far. 

In recent weeks, the 26-year-old has been particularly wasteful in front of goal. Against West Ham United he missed a number of very presentable chances, as the Gunners slumped to a 2-0 defeat. That result marked the start of a three-match losing streak, which has seen the north London club give up significant ground in the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta needs Jesus to be better. The former Manchester City man has already admitted that goalscoring is not one of the greatest strengths of his game, but he is still capable of a more efficient return than he has provided so far this season. 

Jesus has come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks, with the accusation being that he is not prolific enough to fire Arsenal to a title. To some extent, at least, Arteta seems to agree with this assessment, as signing a new striker is a priority for the club in the current January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, Jesus is still an extremely gifted player, and at his best he is capable of taking Arsenal’s game up a level. Soon after his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, after all, Arteta credited the forward with changing Arsenal’s world.

Regardless of any potential new signings, Arsenal need Jesus to get back to his best very soon. Fans of the club will therefore have been heartened to see the latest video clip, posted on the official Arsenal X page, that shows Jesus looking sharp in training. 

Arteta and the Arsenal first-team training squad are currently on a training camp in Dubai. Jesus needs to use this break to reset, get his edge back, and rediscover his clinical touch. If he can do that, then he has the quality to silence his critics in the second half of the campaign.

Supporters will certainly be hoping that Jesus is fully fit and back to his best when Arsenal take on Crystal Palace in a return to Premier League action this coming weekend. When firing on all cylinders, Jesus has what it takes to tear the Eagles apart. Arsenal need that version of the player to be consistently on display for the rest of the season.
