Nuno Mendes was shocked to learn that England had not selected Arsenal midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly for their World Cup squad.
Lewis-Skelly was like a new signing for Arsenal towards the back end of the season and proved to be the difference maker in the Premier League title race.
How much are these five Arsenal players really worth according to you?
The 19-year-old’s impressive form earned him a spot in Arsenal’s Champions League final starting line-up, and the teenager once again did not look out of place.
Lewis-Skelly clearly made a huge impression on the Paris Saint-Germain, with Mendes making his feelings very clear about him not making the England squad.
Nuno Mendes was shocked England did not select Myles Lewis-Skelly
PSG duo Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos were both shocked to learn that England did not pick Myles Lewis-Skelly for the World Cup squad.
Despite his impressive end to the season, Lewis-Skelly did not do enough to be selected by Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions squad.
Arsenal will be pleased that the midfielder will have a chance to rest over the summer and be ready for next season.
But having been so impressed by him this season and last, PSG players could not believe that he would not be playing at the World Cup.
Speaking to Pedro Teixeira Da Mota, Ramos said: “Lewis-Skelly isn’t there? Look, he’s not there either. No. Strange. I thought he was there. He’s not there. He’s not in the midfield. No, man, I already saw. And I was almost sure he was there.
🏆 Which Arsenal star will go the furthest at this summer’s World Cup?
Zubimendi and Spain? Saka and England? Saliba and France?
“He’s a left-back, that’s why I mentioned him. He plays left-back and midfield; it’s like, it’s good to have that versatility.”
Both players seemed shocked that the Arsenal star had not been selected; however, Tino Livramento, Luke Shaw and Djed Spence were all named in the squad.
Lewis-Skelly’s ability to play in both midfield and full-back would have made him such a useful asset, but Tuchel opted to pick other options instead.
Given his partnership with Declan Rice, it might have been a good idea for England to build around that, but unfortunately for Lewis-Skelly, that was not the case.
