Former Premier League star and manager Paolo Di Canio has thrown his backing behing any Inter Milan move for Arsenal star Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland international is being linked with a move to the Italian giants as part of a possible swap deal involving Christian Eriksen.
Xhaka is again going through a tricky period at the Emirates Stadium, having recently received a red card against Burnley.
It follows on from the incident against Crystal Palace a year ago, which saw him react poorly to being booed as he was substituted off – something that ultimately cost him the captaincy.
Supposedly Inter are keen, and keen follower of Serie A Di Canio, who played many times against Inter in his career – can see him in black and blue.
He told Sky Italia: “If you want to start games with a yellow card, that’s fine…
“He’s certainly a player more suited to Inter, he’s a left-footed, very hard, tough, maybe sometimes too much because he takes some yellow cards in the Premier League.
“As an exchange for (coach Antonio) Conte’s idea of football he would be fine, it being understood that Eriksen is technically superior even if he is not showing it at Inter. The fact that he is left-sided is very interesting.”
The swap that would suit all parties
Patience is running quite thin with Xhaka at this point for a lot of Arsenal fans.
The £34 million player (BBC Sport) did well to turn things around after the Palace incident, but his moment against Burnley suggests he can still be ruled by emotion – which is a big concern.
Him heading to Inter and Eriksen coming as part of the deal could be a case of killing two birds with one stone.
Arsenal have lacked creativity this season, and Eriksen – although it hasn’t worked out for him in Italy – has bags of Premier League experience and may be raring to get his career back on track.
