Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City has opened up the floodgates for the critics to come in again and this time Paul Scholes has seized his moment.
Scholes has been vocal all season long in saying he doesn’t feel Arsenal are a top side and has said more than once that they rely on physicality.
Now, after seeing the Gunners lose to Man City, Scholes has doubled down and claimed that the entire team lacks flair.
🧠 Will Arsenal’s defeat to Man City have a psychological blow on the PL title race?
Paul Scholes claims Arsenal lack flair even with Eze and Odegaard playing
There is no question that Arsenal missed at least one of Eberechi Eze or Martin Odegaard at Wembley.
And speaking on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad, and The Football, Scholes got onto Arsenal’s lack of creativity again.
And this time, he suggested that the loss of Eze and Odegaard was massive.
“They haven’t got the team to do it. They’ve got the players, we’ve said all season. It’s a workman-like team and look, maybe it’s a bit harsh to say but it is workman-like,” Scholes said.

“I was looking at them before the game and I was thinking ‘they are massive’. They’re absolute man-mountains. You can see why they do so well from set-pieces. Now look, they can play, they can defend, but they’ve got no flair about them whatsoever.
“You have to admit they missed Eze, they missed Odegaard. But even then, when they’re playing you’re never watching thinking ‘Jesus, they’re a good team’. I’ve never thought it once.”
Arsenal have got to prove Paul Scholes wrong
With Scholes also suggesting the title race isn’t over, it’s clear the former Man United man feels there is more for this Arsenal side to do.
Scholes won countless trophies with United and in fairness, is in a good position to talk about how to get over the line.
However, there does feel to be a bit of an agenda, albeit on this week’s performance, he is probably right.
Arsenal did, of course, miss Eze and Odegaard. Any team in England would.
The trick for this Arsenal side now is to regroup and come back after the international break looking stronger than ever.
Only then when they’ve got the title secured can the pundits be forced to lay off. Until then, it’s very much part and parcel of the job.
