The Premier League title race looks like it will only be decided on the final day of the season.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have picked up the same number of points, and their goal difference is identical as well.

Pep Guardiola’s side, as things stand, are on top of the table because they have scored three more goals.

Some at Arsenal, however, think things would’ve been very different had the Gunners signed Matheus Cunha in the summer.

People at Arsenal think the Premier League would’ve been theirs if they signed Matheus Cunha

Cunha is a player Arsenal looked at in 2024.

The Gunners considered signing him in January last year, but for whatever reason, they dropped the idea and didn’t pursue a move in the summer.

Manchester United, who had no European football, got a free run at his signature and ended up signing him for £62.5 million (BBC Sport).

Cunha has had a decent season for the Red Devils. He has scored eight goals and provided four assists, and has pushed them to a great position to qualify for the Champions League.

Looking at his performances, Miguel Delaney has revealed in his Independent newsletter that some people at Arsenal are regretting the decision not to sign him.

The journalist wrote: “Some figures at Arsenal were meanwhile lamenting that they could have gone clear in this title had they bought Matheus Cunha, who they did look at six months before United signed the Brazilian.

“Behind him, United are now hopeful of working out the financials to keep Bruno Fernandes for another year.”

Matheus Cunha may have cost Arsenal the Premier League title

Arsenal signing Cunha would’ve been great, but at the time, it was the right decision not to pursue a move.

If the Gunners had signed the Brazilian, they wouldn’t have been able to land Eberechi Eze, who plays in a similar position.

Cunha averages a goal or an assist every 202.16 minutes in all competitions, while the Arsenal number 10 has contributed directly to a goal every 189.6 minutes.

The way the Manchester United star may have cost Mikel Arteta the Premier League title, however, is through his winner at the Emirates back in January.

If he hadn’t scored that goal, Arsenal would’ve been one point ahead of Manchester City right now.
