Arsenal could strike cut-price deal for Premier League star after strong January interest

Arsenal were unable to welcome a new player in January but Mikel Arteta could have a strong chance of acquiring one target in the summer.

Despite the Gunners being linked to several forwards in the January market, Arsenal ended the winter with no signings.

While there was nothing to show for the club’s efforts, there was one attempt to welcome an established forward to the Emirates, as Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa were not impressed by Arsenal’s approach for Watkins, subsequently ending the short-winded saga but, the striker wasn’t the only Premier League goalscorer that the Gunners eyed.

Arsenal could secure Matheus Cunha transfer for lower price than expected

Arsenal made contact with Wolves for Matheus Cunha, who stalled contract talks with the Midlands club in January.

Eventually, the Brazilian did put pen to paper on a new deal at Molineux but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee his future in Vitor Pereira’s side.

Cunha has a release clause of £62m that will be active in the summer, which given the player’s form over the 2024/25 calendar, is a fair price for his services.

That being said, it’s understood that Arsenal could strike a deal for the January target for an even lower fee, according to GIVEMESPORT

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT was journalist Ben Jacobs, who mentioned Arsenal when delving into Cunha’s future.

“I think suitors that are looking at Cunha – whether it’s Arsenal or Aston Villa or others – they will feel that regardless of Wolves going down or staying up, there’s a deal there to be had in the summer.

“And that may not necessarily be specifically by triggering the release clause. They may be able to work around its ballpark to get a slightly more preferable deal.”

Signing the Old Gold’s star player for a cut price would be a shock but is certainly something Arsenal should explore given what the Brazilian could offer to Arteta.

Matheus Cunha is on fire this season

Arsenal made contact with Cunha’s representatives however, nothing came from the speculation as the Wolves star remained in the West Midlands.

It’s clear why several clubs are said to be circling around the Brazilian’s availability, with Cunha performing marvelously well in the Premier League this term.

In 24 league appearances, the forward has already matched his scoring record of last season, emphasising that his stocks are rising and that Arsenal must strike whilst the player is hot.

The Gunners have seen enough of what the 25-year-old can do in front of goal, being a deadly creator and finisher in a side that are battling relegation.
