Arsenal begin their quest for a major trophy this season with a clash against AC Milan in Singapore.

The tour gives Mikel Arteta the chance to implement his playing style on the squad once again with the addition of new arrivals and young talent into the mix.

Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard will be in amongst a new-look midfield for the Gunners, whilst Max Dowman is hoping for an opportunity to shine in attack.

The pressure really is on Arsenal to land their first Premier League title since 2004 and supporters will not like what they are hearing about the Gunners’ chances.

Arsenal have become too ‘predictable’ in the way that they play

Arsenal’s injury crisis was a major factor in the club falling short in the four major competitions last season but the team’s playing style has also come in for criticism from journalist Duncan Castles.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘The Transfers Podcast’ Castles has the belief that Arteta’s side are too ‘predictable’ in the way that they play and ultimately it cost them too many points last season.

Castles stated: “For me and I think for a lot of people I speak to in football, the problem with Arsenal wasn’t simply injuries that they suffered last season and not having key players and key positions.

They actually weren’t that good as a football team in the sense of they’re pretty one-dimensional, very good defensively, but not great at creating chances and are quite predictable in the way they played.

I’m not entirely sure that if Arteta stays with the system, but adds a lot of extra bodies and high-quality bodies, that adding those high-quality bodies is going to be sufficient to turn second-place into first-place.”

The Gunners have added Noni Madueke to their attacking options so far this summer in the hope that his pace and unpredictability can add another dimension to the side.

There can be no argument that when teams dropped deep last season and soaked up pressure, rarely did Arteta’s men have an answer. That simply has to change this campaign if they are to get over the line.

How can Arsenal become more creative?

The club are on the verge of signing Viktor Gyokeres and whilst he will solve a huge problem in terms of the chances being converted, work needs to be done on creating them.

There has been an over-reliance on Bukayo Saka in recent seasons and teams have now started to place two even three defenders on the winger to limit his space.

That tactic opens up space elsewhere on the pitch and it is time for the likes of Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli to utilise that space more efficiently.

Another winger with blistering pace in the transfer market would be ideal for the Gunners, they are monitoring Rodrygo at Real Madrid, whilst they also admire Antony Gordon at Newcastle.

Arteta is desperate to sign Eberechi Eze this summer and the Crystal Palace man would certainly add another air of ‘chaos’ and inventiveness to the attack.
