Petr Cech has weighed in on Arsenal’s ongoing situation between Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya, with the former goalkeeper stating there’s not much separating the two.

The Gunners made the surprise decision last summer to sign Raya on loan from Brentford with an option to buy this year, with the Spanish international almost immediately replacing Ramsdale between the sticks.

The 25-year-old was a star for Arsenal over the previous two seasons and looked set to man the posts for the north London side for a decade, yet Mikel Arteta threw everyone off guard last summer by signing Raya.

And speaking on the Obi One Podcast, former Arsenal star Cech has now given his thoughts on the situation, with the Premier League great claiming that there isn’t much separating the two as goalkeepers.

Indeed, Ramsdale hardly put a foot wrong as Arsenal’s number one, yet since coming into the squad, Raya has also been near-flawless despite some hiccups at the start of his time in north London.

Cech said when asked about what he thinks of Arsenal’s current goalkeeping conundrum: “The situation of Ramsdale and Raya is really interesting.

“When you look at them both, there is a competition where both goalkeepers are pretty much one like another. So obviously it’s the coach’s decision. But you find stuff like that where it depends what you want from the players to play.”

Goalkeeping situation still doesn’t sit well with fans

Football fans will forever find something to complain about their club no matter how well things are going, and Arsenal supporters are no exception, with many still agreeing that Ramsdale being dropped is a bad thing.

The former Sheffield United star has done little wrong since his own controversial move to Arsenal back in 2021, with Ramsdale becoming a firm fan favourite and a huge personality off the pitch.

Whilst Raya has impressed and is hardly at fault for the situation currently at hand, Arsenal fans would mostly agree that this season would feel that bit more special if Ramsdale was between the sticks once again.
