Chris Sutton has now shared how he feels that the PGMOL should have responded to Arsenal.
Arsenal recently released an official club statement in support of Mikel Arteta, after the manager criticised the standard of Premier League refereeing and VAR implementation.
In the wake of Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday, Arteta made it clear that he felt that the Magpies’ winning goal should not have stood. In a fiery rant, he blasted the referee’s handling of the incident and called the final decision on the goal a “disgrace.”
The actions of Arteta and Arsenal has]ve ignited huge debate in the football community. Jamie Carragher praised Arteta for his passion. Michael Owen said Arsenal’s behaviour was “classless”.
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has now called for a stronger response from the PGMOL. Speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club podcast, he said, “it would have been good if the PGMOL had come out with a statement back to Mikel Arteta and said, ‘maybe worry about your own team and your own signings. Why are you playing [Kai] Havertz, week in, week out?”

Mikel Arteta giving voice to the frustrations of many
Arsenal are not at their best right now. Kai Havertz is not in great form, despite impressing plenty of Arsenal fans with his display at St James’ Park. Arteta will know, though, that his side have not been at their best in recent weeks, particularly in the final third.
However, none of that will detract from the sense of injustice he still feels when considering Saturday’s result. Whether Arsenal were wise to release an official statement of their own is another matter.
What is beyond debate though is the fact that many are currently dissatisfied with the level of officiating in the Premier League. There needs to be a major improvement in this area of the game. Until there is, Arteta and other managers will continue to vent their frustrations on the subject when they feel like they have been robbed by an incorrect call.
