David Moyes has been speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Everton.
The Gunners picked up a well-deserved win against Fulham in their previous game in the Premier League, and they are now looking to continue that momentum.
The huge clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League is coming up, but Arsenal first have to deal with the Toffees at Goodison Park.
Ahead of the game, Moyes has delivered his verdict on one Arsenal player whom he knows very well.
David Moyes says Arsenal owe him £50m from Declan Rice deal
Arsenal signed Declan Rice from West Ham United in a club-record deal in 2023.
Mikel Arteta made the England international his number one target that summer, and the Gunners faced a lot of competition for his signature.
An initial £100 million was paid to West Ham to sign Rice, and the midfielder has been one of Arsenal’s best players since.
Moyes was at West Ham when that deal went through, but the Scot is now at the helm at Everton. However, his opinion of Rice hasn’t changed.
The 61-year-old always claimed that Rice was worth £150 million at West Ham, but he was ridiculed for that opinion. Now, he thinks he has been proven right and has claimed that Arsenal owe him £50 million.
Moyes said in his press conference, as relayed on HaytersTV: “l used to get criticised when I said that he should be £150 million.
“When I see Arsenal supporters, I tell them they still owe me £50 million because we only got £100 million for him.
“I think that he’s proven exactly what we thought he was. He was going to become a top player.”
There’s one thing people have never said about Declan Rice since he started playing for Arsenal
When the deal first went through, there were a few raised eyebrows because Arsenal agreed to break the bank on Rice.
£100 million fee for a defensive midfielder was questioned by some, but since he started playing for the Gunners, nobody has said a word about Rice’s price tag.
The Englishman has been worth every penny so far, and the fact that he is still only 26 years old means he will deliver even more in the coming years.
Moyes may just be right – signing Rice for £100 million may well prove to be a bargain.
