Pundit says Arsenal keep doing something ‘ridiculous’, they’ve come up with a brand new tactic

It’s been an impressive start to the season for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta hopes to edge closer to the Premier League title.

Having finished second for three years in a row, there’s no room for error for the Arsenal squad this season.

Silverware needs to be delivered, with chances increasing as a result of Andrea Berta’s work in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal’s squad depth has improved significantly, and on the pitch, the Gunners look tactically strong, starting the Premier League season off with two wins and two clean sheets.

Pundits love Arsenal’s success from corners

Having faced Manchester United, who finished 15th last season, and newly-promoted Leeds United so far, the real test comes on matchday three.

Arsenal will travel to Anfield to face Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who beat the Gunners to the title last term.

Liverpool aren’t easy to beat, but when it comes to one thing, Arsenal are impossible to stop, which will play on Slot’s mind.

Speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast, pundit Robbie Mustoe drew attention to how ‘ridiculous’ Arsenal’s success from corners is getting.

“These corner kicks, it’s getting ridiculous. That’s three goals from corners in the last two games.”

Arsenal were the set-piece kings last season as Nicolas Jover frustrated the Premier League with the level he’s installed in Arteta’s squad.

Responding to Mustoe’s praise of Arsenal’s success from corner kicks, co-host Robbie Earle noted how the Gunners’ tactics from set-play have changed slightly.

“He’s got a mural, hasn’t he, Nicolas Jover? He’s going to get a knighthood the way he’s going,” Earle joked.

“It’s incredible. They’re all different versions, aren’t they? All of a sudden, now, because everybody’s marking Gabriel, they’re starting Timber being the guy who comes free and attacks into space.”

As the opposition cracked down on Arsenal’s efficiency from corners at the end of last season, Jover refreshed his tactics, with other players now providing goalscoring threat.

Arsenal’s record from corners is breathtaking

There’s no doubt that Liverpool, and other teams, will try to stop Arsenal from scoring from corners, but it’s easier said than done.

Since the 2023/24 season, no team has scored more than 20 Premier League goals from corners, except Arsenal.

Arteta’s side have netted a monstrous 33 in that time, which isn’t only more than their Premier League rivals, but any other team in Europe’s top five leagues.

Whatever Jover is doing with the squad at Colney is giving teams headaches, something the coach will hope to inflict on Liverpool at Anfield on matchday three.
