Arsenal head into the international break top of the Premier League table, and the mood around the Emirates is subsequently very positive.

The Gunners have been exceptional in recent weeks and have won eight of their ten matches across all competitions this term.

Mikel Arteta’s team strolled past West Ham on Saturday afternoon, keeping their seventh clean sheet of the season in the process.

Conceding just three goals so far, many are now tipping the North Londoners to go all the way and finally win the elusive piece of silverware that has evaded them for over 20 years.

Robbie Mustoe says Arsenal players look like they think something ‘special’ is happening

Arsenal’s defensive record so far this season is simply astounding.

Arteta’s side give the opposition very little hope of finding a way through, and this could provide them with the platform to go on to enjoy major success this term.

Meanwhile, the Gunners’ attack is starting to come together. The likes of Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres are starting to combine effectively and look capable of comfortably producing enough to win games.

Now sat at the summit of the English top flight, excitement is starting to brew around N5 that this could be Arsenal’s year.

Speaking on the 2 Robbies Podcast, pundit Robbie Mustoe revealed that he thinks the North Londoners’ squad are also sensing that this could be their time to achieve something monumental.

“They look like a team, they’re on a mission,” he said.

“They’re a team that looks like, and I say this a lot, it looks like they realise something special’s happening, and I think it’s there for them.

“The intensity of the football, the quickness of the football, the attacking, the skilled nature of them. They gave nothing to West Ham.”

Can Arsenal beat Chelsea’s 2004/05 defensive record?

Chelsea hold the best defensive record in Premier League history, having conceded just 15 goals in the 2004/05 season.

This Blues team, managed by Jose Mourinho, was outstanding at restricting the chances opposition teams were able to create against them.

Arsenal now look primed to at least be close to matching or bettering this record. The Gunners need to concede fewer than 12 goals in their remaining 31 matches to claim the record, which isn’t an outlandish feat given the way they’ve started defensively.

The North Londoners are currently conceding 0.43 goals per match, which means they’re on course to concede around 16 in the league this season.

Thus, they’d still need to improve upon their rate of concessions thus far, although given they’ve already played the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle, this is certainly possible.
